Treating Injuries Resulting From Accidents With Conservative Care

Dr. Jeff J. Mollins (located in downtown Brooklyn), has been treating patients injured in accidents of all kinds (automobile, work, slip PTand falls, construction) for well over 25 years. Dr. Mollins believes that if possible, the most effective means of treating injured patients is by using conservative means. Initially, the goal of treating injured patients is to restore proper range of motion, decrease pain and inflammation, and restore patients so they may return to normal activities of daily living. Here are some of the conservative methods of treatment utilized by Dr. Mollins and his referred medical specialists to provide wellness to his injured patients:

  1. Chiropractic – Chiropractic is based upon the understanding that good health depends upon a normally functioning nervous system. Chiropractic focuses on the the correction of the skeletal and neurological systems of the human body resulting in proper function, elimination of pain, and improved health. By providing a series of gentle spinal manipulations over a period of time, Dr. Mollins will enable his patient to slowly regain proper range of motion and ultimately attain wellness.
  2. Physical Therapy – A physical therapist is a licensed health care professional who examines and evaluates a patient’s condition and then plans and administers treatments to promote optimal health. Physical therapists seek to relieve pain, improve the body’s movement and function, restore, maintain and promote optimal physical function and limit disabilities resulting from injury or disease. Physical therapists utilize manual therapy (such as massage and mobilization), therapeutic exercises, application of therapeutic modalities (such as ultrasound and electric muscle stimulation), and training in activities of daily living.
  3. Acupuncture – Often a holistic approach is a reliable and successful method of treating injured patients. In acupuncture, the theories of traditional Chinese medicine are applied to treat injuries with the use of thin needles inserted at critical points on the human body. Acupuncture is a holistic treatment which works with your own body, supporting and stimulating its energy system to promote a healing response. For the injured patient, this can translate to a more speedy recovery.
  4. Medication – Dr. Mollins works with a competent group of referred medical specialists such as neurologists, orthopedists, physiatrists, pain specialists and others. Quite often, when referred to medical specialists, these physicians will prescribe necessary medication to our injured patients. Proper pain meds along with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication works very effectively along with conservative therapy for our patients to achieve wellness!

Of course if conservative therapies are ineffective or achieves a level of improvement that is not satisfactory, Dr. Mollins ALWAYS has the option to refer his patients for more aggressive treatments. Pain management (part of Dr. Mollins’ referred medical specialists) physicians have an arsenal of treatments to help injured patients (including epidural injections). Orthopedic surgeons (also part of Dr. Mollins referred group) are extremely skilled as well.

So remember, if you are injured in an accident, please see Dr. Jeff Mollins as soon as possible. He will try to implement conservative treatment initially if possible but will do whatever is necessary to get you better.
