Modalities as Part of a Therapeutic Regimen

Dr. Jeff J. Mollins incorporates physical therapy modalities as part of his comprehensive treatment regimen for patients injured in accidents. Whether the injuries sustained are the result of an automobile accident, work accident, slip and fall, or construction accident, modalities can provide a successful, effective, conservative, treatment. Dr. Jeff Mollins, practicing over 25 years in downtown Brooklyn, utilizes the most modern, high tech equipment to provide wellness to his patients as expeditiously as possible.

Dr. Mollins incorporates a variety of modalities to help treat his patients. There are a variety of treatment modalities that can help strengthen, relax, and heal muscles. Below are a few of the treatment modalities utilized by Dr. Mollins Injury Treatment Doctordaily:

1. Muscle Stimulation-uses an electrical current to cause a single muscle or group of muscles to contract. By placing electrodes on the skin in various locations, Dr. Mollins can recruit the appropriate muscle fibers. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle. Dr. Jeff can then change the current setting to allow for a forceful or gentle muscle contraction. Along with increasing muscle strength, the contraction of the muscle also promotes blood supply to the area that assist in healing.

2. Ultrasounds -these machines utilize high or low frequency sound waves. These sound waves are transmitted to the surrounding tissue and vasculature. They penetrate the muscles to cause deep tissue/muscle warming. This promotes tissue relaxation and therefore is useful in treating muscle tightness and spasm. The warming effects of the sound waves also cause vasodilation and increase circulation to the area that assists in healing. Dr. Mollins can also adjust the frequency on the machine to use waves that will decrease inflammation.

3. Cold Packs-are a frozen gel substance used by Dr. Mollins to treat areas of pain and inflammation. The cold packs are wrapped in a wet towel and applied directly to the area in need of treatment. The cold which is transferred to the patient’s skin, muscle and tissue has several beneficial effects. The cold temperature causes vasoconstriction of the blood vessels in the area. This decreases the inflammation in the area. By decreasing inflammation, pain and swelling are decreased.

4. Hot packs-Dr. Mollins will wrap moist hot packs in several layers of towels and place them on the injured areas. The heat provided by the hot packs has several important benefits. It relaxes tight muscles causing a decrease in pain due to tension and/or spasms. It also causes vasodilation of the blood vessels which increases circulation to the area. Patients with muscle strains, spasms, or arthritis often benefit from treatment with moist hot packs.

5. Parrafin Treatment-uses warm oil based wax to provide pain relief to hands, feet, and sore joints and muscles. This treatment has skin softening benefits as well. A paraffin treatment soothes chronic joint pain and relaxes stiff muscles, and improves blood flow to the treated area.

Dr. Mollins incorporates the above modalities as part of his modern, effective treatment regimen providing quality care to all of his patients. Remember, Dr. Mollins also works with referred medical specialists (orthopedists, neurologists, pain management physicians, etc.) to provide comprehensive care no matter what the injury may be. Both Dr. Mollins and his referred medical specialists are certified by the state of New York to treat workers compensation patients. So if you are injured at work, you may be treated at no cost (whether you are working or not). If you are injured in an accident, don’t hesitate to see Dr. Jeff J. Mollins as soon as possible!
