Driving Safety Tips To Avoid Accidents

Dr. Mollins strongly believes that an ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure. Dr. Mollins, Brooklyn’s premier accident specialist, has been diagnosing, treating, and documenting injuries (ranging from mild to severe) sustained in all types of accidents (automobile, work, and slip and falls) for almost 30 years. Dr. Mollins firmly believes that the best solution to preventing injuries sustained in motor vehicles accidents is to prevent the accident from occurring at all. When you’re behind the wheel of a car, whether alone or with passengers, driving safely should always be your first concern. We’re more distracted than ever, so it’s crucial to know the basics of safe driving and practice them every time you’re on the road. Here are some safe driving tips:

1) Focus On Driving

(A) Keep 100% of your attention on driving at all times – no multi tasking.

(B) Don’t use your phone or any other electronic device while driving.

(C) Slow down. Speeding gives you less time to react and increases the severity of an accident.

2) Drive Defensively

(A) Be aware of what other drivers around you are doing, and expect the unexpected.

(B) Assume other motorists will do something crazy, and always be prepared to avoid it.

(C) Keep a 2 second cushion between you and the car in front of you. Make that 4 seconds if the weather is bad.

3) Plan Ahead

(A) Build time into your trip schedule to stop for food, rest breaks, phone calls or other business.

(B) Adjust your seat, mirrors and climate controls before putting the car in gear.

(C) Pull over to eat or drink. It takes only a few minutes.

4) Practice

(A) Secure cargo that may move around while the vehicle is in motion.

(B) Don’t attempt to retrieve items that fall to the floor.

(C) Have items needed within easy reach – such as toll fees, toll cards and garage passes.

(D) Always wear your seat belt and drive sober and drug-free

Remember, if you are one of the unfortunate individuals to sustain a  motor vehicle accident ALWAYS take care of your health first. Go immediately to urgent care or the emergency room and be evaluated by a physician to make sure you have not broken any bones or sustained a dire injury.

The next step is to make an appointment with Dr. Mollins. Dr. Mollins typically sees his patients immediately (usually the same day). When Dr. Mollins sees his patient on the first visit he will take a concise history (specifically asking exactly how the automobile accident happened). He then performs a physical examination which will include range of motion testing, orthopedic and neurologic evaluation of the affected areas. Dr. Mollins will then place his patients on a comprehensive treatment regimen to enable his patients to achieve wellness as expeditiously as possible. If you are injured in a motor vehicle accident, you are covered under no-fault insurance (which Dr. Mollins accepts), so you will be treated at no cost.
